A Victorian lacquered brass and mother of pearl set casket, 19th century, of rectangular serpentine form with hinged cover, the body with floral and foliate chasing within wire and bead scrolls, velvet lined interior, raised on ball feet, 11cm high (at fault)
The piece shows a failed solder repair to the right hand hinge, with consequent distortion and splitting to the left hand hinge (which also appears to have been soldered at some point in the past). The velvet interior shows areas of loss, staining and moth damage. The exterior shows wear and tarnishing commensurate with age and use. The bezel to the rear mother of pear panel is missing a pin.
