A FIRST WORLD WAR GROUP OF FIVE INCLUDING A RUSSIAN AWARD TO THE ROYAL NAVY. A group of five comprising 1914-15 Star named to 278566 W. Godfrey, Ch Sto R.N. War Medal and Victory Medal similarly named, Edward VII Long Service and Good Conduct Medal named to 278566 William Godfrey Sto PO H.M.S. Bellerophon and Russian silver medal of St Stanislas named to W. Godfrey. William Godfrey was born on the 19th September 1871 at Stanford, Norfolk. He joined the Royal Navy on the 27th December 1894, initially for 12 years. Leading Stoker 2nd Class on the 26th December 1900 and Petty Officer Stoker in 1906. During the Russian Czar's visit to England in August 1909 he was serving aboard H.M.S. Bellerophon for which he received the Silver Medal of St Stanislas. He was discharged on the 21st December 1919. With a letter from Buckingham Palace giving permission to wear the Silver Medal of Stanislas. Mounted for display with ribbons and a photograph of the recipient, with copied research.
Replaced swivel suspension to the last. Some marking from wear, generally good condition.
