Irish. Limerick Militia George III silver medal for Coloony 1798.
Good rare unmarked silver example by J. Brush of Dublin. Crown within laurel sprays to obverse centre, legend TO THE HEROES OF COLOONY 5th SEPR 1798 in surround. Reverse bears double turreted castle with central spire flying swallowtail flag, resting in laurel and palm sprays, CORPORATION AND CITIZENS OF LIMERICK in surround. Pierced to take small suspension ring. GC Awarded to those of the Limerick Militia under Charles Vereker, who fought the joint French-Irish army under General Humbert at Coloony, near Sligo, on 5th September 1798.
