1879 South Africa Medal 1879 clasp and QV Army (small letter reverse) LSGC to 16071 Sergt W. Gray R.A. (3247 Driver W. Gray N/6 R.A. on South Africa) very fine. With 11 copied pages of service record, SA roll, birth and death certificates, William Gray was born 25/12/59 in Redruth, enlisted 2/1/78 in 6th Bde, landed South Africa 24/2/79, to India 29/10/79, LSGC awarded 1/7/96, discharged 11/1/99, died 10/s/48 in Thetford. N/6 were part of the reinforcements sent out after the defeat at Isandlwana and were equipped with six 9 pounder guns. All six guns were present at the final battle at Ulundi on 4th July 1879 and so it is most probable that Driver Gray was present at this battle. (See photo) (R)
