Great Britain: Great Northern Railway Co., a group of 13 certificates for £25 shares, 1846, black on pink paper, some in uncut sheets of 2 or 3. A line to run 186 miles from London to York, formed out of the amalgamation of the London and York (as the scheme was originally promoted) and the Direct Northern Railway (its competitor). It was extended and absorbed a number of lines along its route, eventually forming a large part of the London and North Eastern Railway at grouping. VF (13).
