** CHATHAM (PRISON SHIP 'SANDWICH') - LETTER EX FRANCE TO P.O.W. BUT HELD IN PARIS P. O.'s "CABINET NOIR"; Very fine 11 June 1807 EL (unsealed; family news etc from the addressee's father) from "Berneville" addressed to; "M. Henriquet Fourrier, au 67 Regiment, Prisonnier de Guerre a Bord du Ponton Le Sandwich a Chatam" with partly fine "P.53.P/ETAIN" on the front but with no Paris mark and with "15" prepaid rate on reverse, but clearly never delivered. Letters posted after Napoleon's suspension of Mail exchanges (from 21 Nov. 1806) are thought to have remained in the Paris P.O.'s Secret Office ("Cabinet Noir").
