Roman umbonate copper alloy brooch with enamelled decoration, circa 100-250 AD (Mackreth British Plate Petalled Boss Type 7.a). Raised centre, plenty of surviving blue enamel detail and six lugs around. A high-status piece and very attractive, even today. Weight: 10.8g. Diameter: 36mm. Condition: pin missing, brooch slightly distorted, an iron deposit from the spring affects the front face, one perforation, otherwise attractive with a nice mid-green patination. Found near Aldbourne, Wiltshire and recorded by PAS as WILT-051B9C.
