PAIR OF LARGE JAPANESE SATSUMA LIDDED JARS - HODODA. Meiji period, a large pair of large lidded jars, each painted with various male figures by a river, and within a mountainous landscape. With further painted bands around the top and bottom of the jars, each signed 'Shimazu Crest, Satsuma Yaki, Hododa made'. 36.5cms high. (2). ** One jar, couple of small chips to the rim of the jar, couple of small cracks to the side of the footrim, general crazing.
The other, crack from the rim down the body (about 12cms long), small chip to rim of base, small crack to side of footrim, three black marks to the base from manufacture, general crazing.
