Charles II (1660-85), gold Five Guinea coin, 1683, designed by John Roettiers, obverse with right-facing bust of the king wearing a laurel wreath, surrounded by the legend 'CAROLVS II DEI GRATIA', the reverse with four crowned cruciform shields bearing the arms of England, Scotland, France, and Ireland, between which are four sceptres, and in the centre, four interlinked 'Cs, surrounded by the inscription 'MAG BR FRA ET HIB REX', the edge inscribed ' ANNO REGNI TRICESIMO QUINTO DECUS ET TUTAMEN', 36mm, 41.5g.
