1st Essex Volunteer Artillery Victorian post 1894 Officer’s Dress Pouch.
A fine and scarce late 19th Century example, the flap faced with dark blue cloth edged with silver artillery pattern lace and bearing Royal Arms, flanked by oak leaf and laurel sprays in silver embroidery. Padded crimson velvet scroll with laurel spray over silvered metal gun with revolving wheel resting on padded crimson velvet tri-part scroll “ESSEX VOLUNTEER ARTILLERY”. White metal suspension loops, complete with pocket and foul weather cover ... accompanied by a regimental pattern belt of silver lace with ornate buckle, tip and slide. Overall GC (3 parts)
This pattern of pouch without number replaced with laurels was worn by the 1st Essex Volunteer Artillery from 1894 to 1901. This following the change of title “Artillery Volunteers” to “Volunteer Artillery” on the consolidation of the Volunteer Artillery Batteries in 1894. Information supplied by vendor.
