PAID AT WELLINGTON CROWNED CIRCLE & OTHER LETTERS: March 1st 1848 part-letter from Joseph Boulcott to his father John in London, dealing with a claim for compensation and the repair of his store on Lambton Quay and opening of a bonded store. Franked with a fine "PAID/AT/ WELLINGTON NEW ZEALAND" crowned circle (SG CC8 cat. £350) with "WELLINGTON/ MR 1/ 1848/NEW ZEALAND" unframed cds on the reverse and London "AY/10 JY/1848" receiving cancel. A second letter to the same addressee is dated " WELLINGTON/MY 8/1851/NEW ZEALAND" with similar crowned circle and London "Z[crown]Y/6 OC 6/1851" receiving cancel. This deals with a missing box of jewellery that was carried on board the Mariner and claimed by an incorrect beneficiary. Both letters repaired with sellotape. Lot also includes a selection (17) of letters and covers 1844-1905 (some without envs.) inc. family correspondence, a hotel letter from Rotorua, one from RMS Gothic, etc. Useful lot. (19)
