An Early 20th Century Royal Navy Dirk or short sword by Gieves, the piece named "Chief Cadet Captain's Award Sidney Boucher R.N. College Dartmouth 31st March 1915". The 45cm single edge steel blade etched with George V Royal coat of arms, crowned fouled anchor and makers name Gieves, Matthiews & Seagrove Ltd, the brass hilt with recurving crossguard with acorn quillons, crowned fouled anchor within a laurel wreath, with sprung clip, wire bound fishskin grip and lion head pommel with long mane, the black leather scabbard with brass fittings, with bullion wire sword knot, approx 59cm, with later paperwork describing an illustrious military career ending at the rank of Captain
