British Queen. 1840-42 Entire letters (4) and entires (2) from USA to G.B carried on the fourth, sixth or eighth return voyages, or from London to New York carried on the seventh and eighth voyages, also an 1842 letter from New York to Southampton carried on the second of three voyages for the Belgian Government. The first U.S cover paid 12½c + 25c freight money fee, with red Portsmouth Ship Letter, the second entire unusually with a Southampton Ship Letter (although landed at Portsmouth), the others with London Ship Letters. The "British Queen" completed nine transatlantic crossings in 1839-41 for the British & American Steam Navigation Co; after that company failed it was sold to the Belgian Government, completing a further three transatlantic crossings.
