1701 King William III Guinea with narrow crowns and ornamented sceptres (S 3463, EGC 426). Obverse: second laureate bust, facing right, 'GVLIELMVS · III · DEI · GRA ·' around. Reverse: cruciform shields of royal arms representing England, Scotland, Ireland and France surmounted by small or narrow crowns. The shields are arranged around a central Nassau lion within a cartouche with ornamented sceptres in the angles. The legend reads 'MAG BR · FRA ET · HIB REX ·' with the date (1707) divided by the English crown in italic script. Edge: diagonally milled. Weight: 8.22g. Diameter: 25.7mm. Grade: GF/VF - Good Fine/Very Fine with some mint lustre. William III died in March 1702, though his last Guineas, including this example, were issued in the previous year. William was succeeded by his sister-in-law, Queen Anne whose first Guineas were dated 1702.
