Exceptional quality Queen Anne walnut cabinet, the twin cupboard doors revealing a fitted interior with an arrangement of drawers, pigeon holes and secret compartments, raised on barley twist supports, on a later stand, originally a wedding gift to the vendors family from from the officers of the 60th Rifles, King's Royal Rifle Corps, individuals include Frank Henry Wheate Barnett, the eldest son of George Henry Barnett (1880-1942) was born in December 1906 at the family home, Glympton Park in Oxfordshire. Sadly Major FHW Barnett, died of wounds on 2nd June 1940 whilst coordinating the evacuation of the BEF from Dunkirk, The pieces of paper with the officers' signatures contain some notable names among others, Lt-Col, Sir Martin Gilliat, GCVO, MBE (1913-1993), who was captured during WW2 and imprisoned at Colditz and later became Private Secretary to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, Lt-Col Martin Chateris, Baron Charteris of Amisfield, GCB, GCVO, OBE, QSO, PC (1913-1999), who fought in the Middle East during WW2, became Private Secretary to Queen Elizabeth II until his retirement in 1977 when he became Provost at Eton College, Lt-General William Henry Ewart Gott, CB, CBE, DSO & Bar, MC (1897-1942, nicknamed Strafer, was appointed commander of the British Eighth Army, Middle East, in 1942 but his plane was shot down and he was killed on his way to take up his command. His death led to the appointment of Lt-General Bernard Montgomery, H 158cm x W 102cm x D 47cm
