£180 - £250
A medieval banquet: a good mother of pearl fan, the monture silvered and gilded, showing the dining hall of a large building, with portraits hung on the walls, various family groups, young and old alike, being served from large platters, one woman with tiny baby, a hunter with his hawk, the reserves painted in gold, the leaf of skin, and the verso, in cream, painted with a village washhouse, the maidservants washing in the river, one protecting herself from splashing with the aid of a wooden kneeling box, guard approx. 27cm
In fairly good order, the monture appearing sound. Some rubbing to the folds and overpainting to the reserves top left, and at some point the lower section of the leaf has suffered, but been sympathetically restored.
