A pair of Chinese blue and white porcelain jars, Qing Dynasty, probably Kangxi period (1662-1722), Artemisia leaf marks to bases, ovoid form with slightly tapered necks, the slightly tapered foot with unglazed lower edge, painted with a nobleman beneath a pagoda, with attendants in a fenced garden and ruyi clouds, the shoulder with floral reserves on a keyed diaper ground, below a lappet band to the neck, a similar band above the foot, 9¼in. (23.5cm.) high, with carved and pierced hardwood lappet and lotus root covers and carved hardwood stands. (6) One with very old chip inside edge of foot (probably from the making, not later), and the other with three small firing cracks to the edge of the foot. Glaze scratching to both vases, and both have several glaze flaws to the main body and glaze flaws around the neck rim. One has a tiny chip to the edge of the neck rim and a tiny glaze crack to the shoulder. Both have two star cracks to the inside of the jar - none are visible to the exterior. The hardwood covers and stands are in good condition - one stand has a chip to the top edge.
