N.B. Painter, mural artist, designer and illustrator, born in Retford, Nottinghamshire. Studied at Twickenham School of Art, in Paris and at the Royal Academy Schools, winning a bronze medal in 1953. Showed UA, Piccadilly Gallery, in the provinces and at Paris Salon, where he won two silver medals in the 1950s. Did a variety of work for firms such as Imperial Chemical Industries and Shell Petroleum. The Science Museum holds his work. Lived in Shepperton, Middlesex
