A Chinese Canton painted and carved mother of pearl fan, Qing dynasty, mid 19th century painted with cartouches depicting the Hongs at Canton including views of the factories and the Pearl river reserved on a decorated blue ground, the reverse with numerous figures on terraces, the sticks carved and engraved with figures and pavilions, 49cm [one stick repaired possibly during manufacture].
