A French Boulle inlaid striking mantel clock late 19th century, the balloon shaped case with gilt metal foliate scroll, husk, rocaille and mask mounts and seated putto finial, brass inlay and tortoiseshell veneers, glazed front pendulum aperture and foliate scroll feet, 5in. cast gilt brass dial with twelve Roman numeral enamel cartouches, twin barrel movement striking the half hours on a bell, no. 2909, further marked '1875', sunburst mask pendulum bob, 15¾in. (40cm.) high, with a matching Boulle inlaid base. (2)
*Winds, runs and strikes. Some small blisters, cracking and deterioration to the surface of the tortoiseshell to the lower and upper side panels. A couple of small pieces of brass inlay lifting. Shrinkage crack to back of pagoda top and two to movement door. No damage to enamel numerals. Stand has some small chips and flakes from tortoiseshell to top edge of front. Good overall.
