RARE FULLY PAID 1/1d VIA BRINDISI RATE; 31 Dec. 1870 env. (few defects) to London franked 1d + 1/- Laureates tied by two Geelong duplexes. Carried on the Geelong to Galle, Mongolia to Suez and Bangalore from Alexandria to Brindisi. Six examples of this rate in place for one year, recorded by us. Rarely used route as mainly competing with the Marseilles route until it became inoperable in Oct. 1870 due to the Franco-Prussian War.
