A fine Japanese Satsuma pottery teapot, Meiji period, with gilt metal swing handle, finely painted in enamels and gilt to the upper body, one side with an oval panel depicting three women playing musical instruments whilst a child watches, to the other side with an oval panel depicting buildings in a wooded garden with a river beyond, all reserved against a pointillist gilt ground densely populated with butterflies and flowers, gilt floral sprays to the spout and lower body, the cover with gilt ball finial and conforming decoration, a/f damage and losses to cover and handle supports, gilt painted four character seal mark to base, 'Sozan' in a gilt line border, 11.3 by 9.4 by 7.4cm high.
