A late 18c Cuff type monocular microscope by R. Bancks, Strand, London and numbered 440. It has a vertically mounted tube and the underlit stage has rack and pinion focussing and an understage mirror. It is mounted on a rectangular mahogany base which contains a drawer of objectives and other accessories. It is contained in a fitted mahogany box which has a drawer containing slides and a est tube. Box 32cm tall overall.
The lacquered brass components are somewhat tarnished but the accessories seem fairly complete. The base and box are in reasonable condition.
