Rare group with British South Africa Company Medal (Rhodesia 1896) no clasp to 2795 Pte F. Crane 4/Rif Bde, 1899 QSA 3 clasps Cape Colony, OFS, Transvaal to 2795 Pte F.C. Crane Rifle Bde, 1902 KSA both clasps to 2795 Pte J. Crane Rifle Brigade, 1914-15 Star trio to S-6797 Pte F.C. Crane Rif Brig, Memorial Scroll to Rifleman Frederick Clarence Crane Rifle Brigade and Memorial Plaque to Frederick Clarence Crane, first 3 with contact marks about very fine, last 4 extremely fine. He was killed in action with 1st Bn aged 42 during the 2nd Battle of Ypres on 2nd May 1915 and is commemorated on the Menin Gate.
With good range of original documentation including cabinet photo, BWM transmittal slip, Rifle Bde Record Office notification of KIA, 1915 notification he was buried near Hill 37 N&E, 2 parchment certificates of discharge, pension letter, ribbon bar for first 4 etc. With 3 copied pages of first period of service record, CWGC and Soldiers Died, he was born in Southwark, enlisted aged 18 while serving in East Surrey Militia 13/6/93, served South Africa 2/5/96 to 22/6/97 and 23/3/00 to 23/9/02, only 31 BSAC Medals to 4th Rifle Bde who served with Mounted Infantry, sentenced to 28 days I.H.L. for drunkenness on active service 7/10/01, discharged 12/6/05. He must have re-enlisted at the start of WW1. Has been contained in a frame which is with the lot but will not be posted. (See photo) (B)
