A c.1880’s wood fan, the monture with deeply carved guards, the gorge sticks with simple piercing, mounted with a leaf of cream silk embroidered with tiny sequins, and applied with borders of black bobbin lace, having a central bow formed from black machine lace applied to fill the remainder of the leaf, the verso with a printed scene of gentry entertaining Pierrot and Harlequin in the grounds of a grand house, guard approx. 27cm; together with a telescopic fan with wood sticks painted in gold, the emerald green silk leaf edged with a machine imitation of Blonde lace; and a bone fan, the simple monture mounted with a pale lilac silk leaf, applied centrally with the initials A.S formed from Belgian bobbin lace, guard approx. 24cm (3)
The first fan is in good order with some rubbing to the gold. The second fan has some light damage and foxing to the leaf. The third fan leaf has fading to the first folds in, at both sides, and a small plate repair to the lower end of both guards, quite inobtrusive.
