***These rare issues were stamped out from commandeered private silver plate by Royalist forces during the long (third) siege of Newark, under the governorship of John, 1st Lord Belasyse, appointed in November 1645 and who was obliged to surrender on 8th May 1646. The issued dated 1646 were minted from 25th March that year until the surrender in May***
