English School (mid 19th century), The Schooner "King" off the Casquettes oil on canvas 15 ½ x 19 ½in. (39.5 x 49.5cm.) * The 67 ton schooner "King" was built by Philip J. Le Sueur at Fort Henry, Grouville, Jersey in 1858. Philip de la Mare became Master of the King in 1859 and remained so until 1874. The figurehead indicates that the painting dates from after 1862 when the King returned to operation after a refit.
