CAPTAIN GEORGE DRUMMOND FISH, (IRISH 1876 – 1938), LOUGH COOMASHARN, CO. KERRY, watercolour & pencil on card, signed lower right. Inscribed to the mount lower left with location. Dimensions frame: 54 x 43.5cm, painting: 35 x 25cm.
MORE ABOUT THE ARTIST: Drummond Fish studied art in the Liverpool School of Art & won a travelling scholarship which allowed him to travel to places like Paris, Brussels & Antwerp.
He saw service with the 6th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles at Gallipoli during WWI, as part of the 29th Brigade of the 10th (Irish) Division. Whilst there he produced numerous military paintings & sketches of the Gallipoli peninsula, including 8 which would be used to illustrate Henry Hann’s book: The Pals at Suvla Bay’.
Following his return from the war he painted extensively throughout Ireland, Scotland & Wales, specialising in remote landscapes, coastal scenes & rugged mountain terrain.
