Officer's hat tin for blue cloth helmet, maker's brass plate for W. Cater & Co, 56 Pall Mall, London, owner's brass plate engraved E.H. Kirkpatrick Oxford Ly Infty. Tin with minor dents and has been re-painted at some time. Major Edward Hartley Kirkpatrick served in the Boer War with the 1st Bn and was awarded a QSA & KSA. He was killed in action on 15th May 1915 serving with the 2nd Bn and is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial. He was also Mentioned in Despatches published in the London Gazette dated 17/2/15. With copied CWGC, MIC, Soldiers Died and MID card. (B)
