Star Lot: A pair of stunning original antique oil on panel paintings dating to 1890. Of the English Landscape school featuring quiet riverbank with picturesque trees and landscape. This subject was favoured at the time, and in fact does not represent a real English landscape but instead an idealised one constructed by the artist from various studies made of local flora. Of particular beauty in these works is the sky and its reflection on the water surface, both creating balance in the composition and atmosphere. The artist used tight and varied brushstroke to build up texture and colour, resulting in a truly fabulous piece. Both signed indistinctly and housed in original chippendale gilt frames.
