A brass barrelled flintlock blunderbuss with spring bayonet, c 1820, 29½” overall, bell mouth barrel 14” with B’ham proofs and with 12” spring bayonet released by a catch on the breech tang; flat stepped lock with roller on the frizzen spring, signed “Thewlis”; walnut fullstock with finely chequered wrist and shield shaped escutcheon; engraved brass mounts, the trigger guard with pineapple finial; and with original steel tipped ebony ramrod.
