Boer War and WW1 photo albums (2) of Colonel George Crossman C.M.G. D.S.O. West Yorkshire Regt. He served as a Lieut with 2nd Bn in Boer and was twice mentioned in dispatches and awarded the Distinguished Service Order announced in London Gazette dated 31st October 1902 (for the action at Lake Chrissie 1901), a rare award to a Lieut. The first album contains 197 photos in random order, some taken by Regimental officers, others by reporters etc, showing both British and Boer troops, artillery, damaged bridges and buildings, trains, transport, personnel etc, most of the West Yorks Regt are identified with many of the officers named.
The second album (135 photo) starts in 1911 with newspaper cuttings and photos of the 1912 Coal Strike, 1913-14 Malta Station, return from Malta Sept 1914, France and Belgium including 2 photos of 1914 Xmas Day truce, Ypres, battlefields, destroyed tanks, some family related photos etc.
He was appointed C.M.G. in 1916 and mentioned in dispatches 7 times in WW1. Relinquished his commission as a Colonel in 1934. With copied officer's service papers and WW1 MIC. The albums spines have broken and some pages are loose. The photos are in a range of sizes and most are stuck down.
Lt George Crossman's letters etc and are deposited in the Liddell Hart Military Archive at Kings College, London. (B)
