A William & Mary 'Seaweed' marquetry and walnut escritoire on stand with shaped bolection drawer, the fall opening to reveal a bank of pigeon holes over a central cupboard flanked by further small drawers with leathered writing surface below. The stand with a single frieze drawer and Vitruvian scroll supports over shaped uniting stretchers and turned bun feet.104 overall width x 54 cm overall depth x 154 cm overall height, 82 cm height to the open fall.
Dispersal of an old family collection
The stand shows some signs of old repair in the form of drawer runners and other minor repairs it is possible that the waist mouldings may have been replaced and possibly the bun feet The upper carcass shows signs of cracks due to shrinkage As with any piece of furniture of this age it will have had repairs or restoration over the years to remain functional.
