1d Blacks. 1840 (Oct 28) Printed notice "Sale by Auction of the Estate called The Hayes situate in the Parish of Standish in the County of Gloucester, advertised to be sold by Mr C.F Moore is for the present Postponed" posted from Gloucester to Monmouth franked by a 1d black HI plate 1b (three margins, crossed by file fold); and a May 6th 1840 letter posted from London to Eastbourne with clear MY 6 backstamp and partial Maltese Cross cancel, the 1d black tragically removed from what would have been a First Day use of the stamp.
