A FIRST WORLD WAR CASUALTY PAIR AND CAP BADGE TO THE MANCHESTER REGIMENT. A Great War Pair comprising War Medal and Victory Medal named to 202388 Pte H. Whitaker Manch R. Herbert Whitaker, a Cotton Weaver from Manchester, was the eldest son of Alfred and Annie Whitaker of 20 Ribblesdale View, Chatburn, Clitheroe, Lancashire. Joining up at the age of 18 years and 7 months he served with the 2nd/5th Battalion of the Manchester Regiment, and was killed in action on the 8th June 1917, he is buried at Noeux-Les-Mines Communal Cemetery, his headstone reads 'He did his best for one and all then bravely answered Duty's Call', he was 19 years old. With a copied cutting from the Clitheroe Advertiser with an image of the recipient, photograph of his home, memorial and headstone.
Recorded as Whittaker and Whitaker. *CR Mounted for display. Light surface marks. A lot fee of £8 inc. VAT will be charged on top of the hammer price and BP on all lots.
