Indian Brass Kumkum Powder Box,
The box opening to reveal five separate compartments, with remnants of some of original powder contents remaining. Surmounted with a peacock.
Kumkum is a powder used for social and religious markings, usually on the forehead, in India. It is predominantly made from turmeric, which is dried and powdered with a bit of slaked lime which turns the rich yellow powder into a red color.
