the sides finely painted with two panels depicting boys and elegant ladies in a fenced verdant garden setting, reserved against a yellow-ground painted with blossoming scrolling tendrils

PROVENANCE: Acquired in China by Captain Charles Oswald Liddell (1854-1941). Liddell lived in China from 1877 to 1913, and thence by descent.
