An album containing 75+ albumen print views of Japan c.1890-1900, of which 30 hand tinted, mostly approx. 19 x 26cm, and 45+ uncoloured, various sizes approx. 9 x 14cm to 21 x 27cm, images include Ainu, Yokohama various views, Tokyo various views including Sumo wrestlers etc, portrait photographs Geishas, Yumoto, Hata Hakone, Tonosawa, Dogoshima, Kiga etc, vast majority of photographs loosely corner mounted in album, much other material on Japan mounted and loosely inserted between leaves of album including illustrated cuttings from early 20th Century publications, some pen & ink manuscript extracts on the Dai-Butsu at Kamakura Monastery, written by the compiler on Nippon Yusen Kaisha shipping line headed paper and dated June and November 1903, some of the photos with corresponding m/s pencil captions to paper leaves of album, oblong folio album (31 x 40cm), old stitched card wraps; together with a further folder containing similar Japanese prints, art, playbill etc, compiled by the same person with some of their manuscript pencil notes/captions (2)
