A 17TH CENTURY STUMPWORK PANEL, probably a box top and depicting a central couple and other figures in biblical allegory, surrounded by animals and insects and a castle in the background, now covered in a museum mesh and framed, with an old 19th Century panel verso and written in pen ‘Miss Walrond Skinner, Trevaine, Newport….basket cover worked by one of Queen Elizabeths maids of honour’. 31 x 42 cms

More Information

The panel is overall heavily faded. The whole is covered in an old museum style fine mesh although is has obviously been in this frame for sometime. The top edge has some areas of lateral fraying middle right. There are areas of wear and loss but difficult to totally define. This is more obvious on the head of the male centre figure. The bottom edge has staining which is undulating from the left to right showing as a light brown wave. Photos Added.
