A LARGE THAI SAWANKHALOK CELADON STONEWARE DISH, 14/15TH CENTURY. Heavily potted with flared upturned rim. The central inner surface is decorated with an incised sun pattern surrounded by parallel bands. Surrounding this are five incised roundels each containing lotus blossoms. The outer wall is carved with vertical grooves and horizontal bands below the rim. It is coated in a translucent and finely crackled blueish green celadon glaze. The unglazed base has fired to a deep reddish brown and in its centre is the round mark of the pontil on which it stood whilst in the kiln during firing. 29.5cm diam.
Rim with a hairline that follows the crackle of the glaze. Otherwise no restoration or repair.
