Enhanced to the popular SoCal “Outlaw” look
Prepared for HRCA rally events such as the Scottish Malts and the Old Stager Rally
A lightweight and nimble handling rear-engined, rear-wheel-drive, two-door sports car, Porsche’s 356 evolved from a streamlined little aluminum-bodied coupe powered by a VW-derived, 46bhp, 1,100-cc air-cooled flat-four, to the mighty four-cam Carrera models of the early 1960s.

The 356 B from 1960 through 1963 represents the mid-point in the car’s design. The headlamps were raised, a larger bonnet handle added, and front vent windows appeared in the doors. Mechanically, the gearbox and drum brakes were upgraded, and a new steering wheel and column refreshed the interior, along with redesigned rear seats. The mid-1962 356 B model was changed to the T6 body type (twin engine lid grilles, an external fuel filler in the right front wing/fender and a larger rear window in the coupé).

Completed 3rd January 1962, finished in Heron Grey (6207) with a Green Leatherette interior and Dunlop B7 tyres, this 356B Coupe was destined for the United States, latterly residing in Washington and Florida before arriving in the UK in 2014. During its time in the US, the 356 was clearly well loved, as shown by over $10,000 in bills for a myriad of parts and services to maintain and improve the car.

Upon arrival in the UK, the new owner, a serial Porsche devotee, decided to give his new 356 the popular SoCal “Outlaw” look. The Rod Emory-styled and race-inspired 1950s “Outlaw” aesthetic has its roots in Southern California, the premise being to lower the silhouette of the car while preserving essential elements of the factory design.

The 356 was lowered, the bumpers and wheel rims carefully removed and stored, burgundy racing decals applied, and a number of minor mechanical items attended to. Replacement Zenith 32NIX carburettors were fitted, as was electronic ignition with coil, a replacement clutch and flywheel, wheel bearings and attention to the braking system. The lovely interior now benefits from new carpeting, a Moto-Lita steering wheel and replacement headlining in black, which in our opinion suits the car well. Usefully the above cosmetic changes are very easily reversible if desired; the bumper and wheel trims will come with the car, and the decals can be simply removed. Bills totalling a further c.£2700 document parts acquired in the UK

A well known example, 866 UYF has been seen at a number of events over recent years such as the Bicester Sunday Scramble, Goodwood Revival, Silverstone Classic, Kop Hill and at the Ace Cafe. Finished in Champagne with a wine red interior and biscuit carpeting, and complete with a number of receipts during UK and US ownership, UK V5, shipping documentation, a Porsche Driver’s Manual and Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this is a really fun and distinctive 356 which can be jumped into and enjoyed right away.
