Artwork: The Starbuck family of Nantucket: an oak framed chalk portrait of a young girl, a faded label inside reading 'S.Starbuck', possibly Sarah. Visible image 20cm by 15.5cm. Together with an en grisaille portrait of Edward Starbuck,and a Nasielski framed portrait of the same gentleman. Part of the Starbuck archive being sold through this saleroom. The Starbuck family were prominent in the anti-slavery movement both in the UK and the USA. Having been involved in the founding of Nantucket, members of the family emigrated to Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, after the American Revolutionary War and continued their successful whaling business.
