A PAIR OF GOEBEL BISQUE STYLE PORCELAIN BUSTS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE, designed by the German artist Gerhard Bochmann. Made in West Germany prior to reunification in 1977. They can be used as book ends or ornaments. One is attached to the wooden base; the other is resting upon it; underneath is impressed 1977. Each 23cm tall.
Gerhard Bochmann was an artist that worked for various figurine/sculpture makers such as Goebel, Meissen etc. Born in 1925 in Dresden, he developed an early interest in sculpting and was an apprentice at the Meissen company before WWII. In 1962 he joined W. Goebel and became a master sculptor. Retiring in 1991.
