1966 Vespa SS180 Super Sport
Registration Number: MCY 405D
Frame Number: VSC1T 0023029
Engine Number: VSC1M 0022199
Introduced in 1964, Vespa’s new SS 180 Super Sport was at the time the fastest production model Piaggio had ever made. Following the GS160 Mark II, the new model retained the large toolbox on the inside of the leg shield, 10 inch wheels and with four gears its 181cc motor produced 10hp and gave a top speed of 65mph. This was the last Vespa model with a piston-ported engine. The most noticeable feature is the trapezoidal headlight shared with smaller sister models the GL150 and 125. Around 35,700 were produced between 1964 and 1968, and today these are highly sought after as the height of ‘60s modernist style.
This genuine Italian SS180, a Series II with keyless ignition, has been nicely restored using original parts. The Vespa has very straight panels, with many original parts such as front and rear Siem lights, we believe the original (recovered) seat, badges, horn and speedometer, also original Zadi keys for the tool box and steering lock. Finished in a period-correct shade of red, we understand the scooter starts easily and runs nicely. This numbers-correct example is offered with a valid UK V5C
