Cornelius Vanbilt II (1843-1899). American socialite & businessman. An attractive Document Signed, one page, oblong folio, 1st March 1883, being a bond certificate, with an engraved vignette at the head, issued by The Michigan Central Railroad Company for the sum of $5000 to The Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company, agreeing to pay the amount on 1st March 1931 and with an interest rate of five percent per annum. Signed by Vanderbilt at the foot in his capacity as vice president and countersigned by the assistant treasurer and the president of the Union Trust Company of New York. Each of the signatures are affected by file holes as standard and the certificate also bears a rubber-stamped cancellation mark dated 8th May 1901. Some light creasing and a couple of very minor, light stains to two corners.
