1815 Waterloo Medal to Norman Gilles, Drummer, 1st Bat 92nd Highlanders, replacement clip and ring, about very fine. With various copied and typed research, he served as a boy soldier up to 24th April 1809, when he transferred to Men's establishment as a Drummer & Fifer. He served with the regiment in the Peninsula from the end of 1810 to 1814. He was present at the Battle of Quatre Bras where they sustained repeated charges by French infantry and cavalry, where Wellington observed the steady manner in which they broke up these repeated onslaughts. Just before night-fall, the 92nd charged a French column of 1,200 men and routed them.
He was also present at Waterloo 3 days later. The Regiment suffered heavy casualties in the 2 battles suffering 421 killed and wounded. He served in Jamaica 1819-21 and while in Jamaica, he deserted on 1st October 1821. Only 10 Drummers on the roll for the regiment. (See photo) (R)
