ARTHUR RACKHAM (1867-1939) 'Head of Valkyrie', original pen and ink illustration, circa 1911, signed with monogram 'A.R', 5in x 2 3/4 in (12.5 cm x 6.5 cm).
This is the original illustration used in 'Siegfried and the Twilight of the Gods' as the tailpiece to the list of illustrations.

The reverse bears a label of Ernest Brown and Phillips, Leicester Square, London. The label is believed to be from their October 1911 exhibition of Arthur Rackham illustrations, giving the title of number 5 Head of Valkyrie (tail piece) and the purchaser 'P Brewster Esq'. Philip Brewster, was an early Isle of Man T.T competitor and husband of the firebrand suffragette Clara Giveen.
