A WWII ERA IMPERIAL JAPANESE FORCES NAVAL OFFICERS SHORT SWORD, (type 97 KAI-GUNTO), c.1937-1945, blade length approximately 53cm but is much older than the rest of the sword, believed to be 16th Century, Bizen work, the tang on the blade has been modified slightly to suit, the blade is in fine condition as is the rest of the sword, the scabbard is missing one ring hanger, but does not detract from the overall appeal of this weapon, Naval swords to the Japanese are considered scarce to the approximate 70% losses of their officers during WWII
