A scratch built museum standard model of paddle steamer 'Sirius'. Mid 20th century, with planked deck and hull, and a full complement of fittings, length 100cm, in a glazed mahogany case, with a stand, overall height 140cm.P.S.Sirius has an interesting history, she was built by Robert Menzies & Sons, Leith, Scotland. The owners were St. George Steam Packet Co, Cork, Ireland. She started service in 1837. The following year she became the first steam passenger ship to cross the Atlantic from Bristol to New York and technically became the first holder of the Blue Riband.On 16th January 1847 she was wrecked off Ballycotton, Ireland.
