Canada. 1854 (Apr 24) Stampless entire letter from Glasgow to Toronto carried on the Canadian S.N Co. "Ottawa" which was diverted from Quebec to Portland due to ice encountered at the mouth of the St. Lawrence, incorrect "7" accountancy mark replaced by "1d"; and 1860 (Sep 24) cover franked 6d from London to St. John's, Newfoundland, carried on the second and final voyage of the Galway Line "Connaught", which called at St. John's but sank on its onward voyage to New York due to a fire and subsequent flooding, backstamped at St. John's (Oct 3).
